A Government Account Manager for Enterprise Business in a telecom company is responsible for driving revenue growth, managing high-value public sector accounts, and navigating complex government procurement processes. This role bridges the gap between telecom technology and public sector needs, ensuring strict compliance with regulatory and tendering frameworks.
Job Summary
The Government Account Manager oversees a portfolio of state, local government agencies, and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The primary objective is to build strategic relationships with key decision-makers, identify new business opportunities, and manage the end-to-end bidding process (RFPs/Tenders). This position requires a strong blend of technical telecommunications knowledge, commercial acumen, and public sector compliance expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Account Management & Relationship Building
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned government agencies and PSUs.
- Map accounts comprehensively to identify key stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Establish and nurture long-term strategic relationships to ensure customer retention.
- Deliver executive-level presentations and effectively handle CXO-level discussions. [
Sales & Revenue Generation
- Meet and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales, order booking, and revenue targets.
- Upsell and cross-sell core telecom products, including dedicated internet, MPLS, SD-WAN, Cloud, IoT, IoT security, and voice solutions.
- Protect existing revenue streams by managing contract renewals and mitigating churn.
- Oversee timely billing collections and resolve commercial disputes efficiently.
Tender & Bid Management
- Monitor government portal platforms for relevant upcoming RFPs, RFIs, and tenders.
- Manage tender specifications during the pre-RFP stage to align solutions with client requirements.
- Collaborate with internal Solutions,technical Support Groups (TSG), legal, and pricing teams to build competitive bids.
- Ensure absolute compliance with all government procurement regulations and reporting standards.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with engineering and network teams to ensure smooth service delivery and SLA adherence.
- Coordinate with external system integrators (SIs) and vendors for complex, large-scale project execution.
- Provide accurate market intelligence regarding competitor movements and public sector spending trends.
Skills & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ECE/CS/IT), Business Administration, or a related technical field. An MBA is highly preferred.
- Experience: 10 to 15 years of experience in enterprise sales or account management within the telecom, ISP, or System Integration sectors.
- Sector Expertise: Proven track record of managing public sector accounts and winning complex government tenders.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Deep knowledge of telecom products, including cloud architecture, next-gen networking, data, and voice services.
- Thorough understanding of public sector procurement, compliance frameworks, and legal regulations.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to structure complex, multi-year financial deals.
- Exceptional negotiation, bid management, and proposal-writing skills.
Work Environment
- This is a field-intensive role that often requires up to 75% travel for client engagement, status meetings, and liaison activities.
